With "Das Leben ist ein seltsames Klavier," Angela Aux releases a song that seems shimmering and light at first glance, yet carries a peculiar coldness beneath. "Oh I think they've cracked the code / and they're playing on the DNA" opens up an image of the present as a laboratory, of the world as surface, and of a state in which everything already feels slightly shifted: half campfire, half orbit, half interior view of a world in the process of resorting itself. Folk, neo-bossa and electronics create a soft, distanced movement that treats pop as a space for thought. Within it, Angela Aux exposes a self caught in an irreversible process that ultimately leads to the dissolution of the present: "The world enjoys the time for itself / doesn't need quite so much human" sets the tone: cool, clear, with a faint undertow into the apocalyptic. It sounds like wit, but also like a genuinely meant distance from one's own kind. Bruno Berle, José González and Peter Licht shimmer through as reference points, while the song retains its slightly detached distinctiveness: a gentle soundtrack for the last drink at the bar at the end of the universe.
